Exploration of Strengthening Lecturer Performance in the Education Era through AI-Driven Instructional Design Capability and Data-Informed Teaching Decision Making
Abstract
The acceleration of digital transformation in higher education institutions underscores the urgent need to understand the mechanisms linking artificial intelligence capabilities to faculty performance enhancement. This study aims to test an integrative model positioning AI-Driven Instructional Design Capability (X1) and Data-Informed Teaching Decision Making (X2) as exogenous variables, with Teaching Innovation Agility (Y1) and Learning Outcome Personalization (Y2) as mediators toward Faculty Performance Enhancement (Z). A quantitative cross-sectional survey approach was applied to 251 active lecturers in Indonesia selected through purposive sampling. Analysis employed CB-SEM using IBM SPSS AMOS version 23. Findings reveal that X1 significantly influences Y1 (β = 0.183) and Y2 (β = 0.175), while X2 exerts a dominant effect on Y1 (β = 0.790) but not directly on Y2. Y2 is confirmed as the primary predictor of Z (β = 0.555), with mediation analysis establishing X1 → Y2 → Z and Y1 → Y2 → Z as the strongest operative pathways. Universities are advised to prioritize structured data literacy training and systematic development of AI-based instructional design capabilities among faculty.
